The Western New York Artists Group (http://www.wnyag.com/) is sponsoring their 22nd regional, juried exhibition at the Art Dialogue Gallery, Buffalo, NY, from October 18 to November 15.  The judge this year was Grace Meibohm, who selected one of my drawings for the show, The Debutante's Ball.  If you are in the Western New York region, then consider visiting the gallery on 1 Linwood Avenue.

Entry for the 2014 Joint Mathematics Meeting Art Exhibit in Baltimore, Maryland

Time; mixed-media on paper, 20" x 15"
The JMM 2014 panel of jurors have selected this drawing for the show.  My entry for the 2014 Joint Mathematics Meeting is called Time.  Seashell Geometry may suggest an equation for Einstein/Lorentz Space-Time (Ilert, 1981), but for the snapping turtle and the cottontail rabbit in my region the Aesopic struggle with time in their race is mathematically concrete space.

The Joint Mathematics Meeting is the largest of its kind in the world, comprising two major academic organizations, The Mathematical Association of America and the American Mathematical Society.  Sessions by the Association of Symbolic Logic, Association for Women in Mathematics, among other groups, are also on schedule.

Diverse Approaches on Paper at the Impact Artists Gallery

The Great Debate; pencil on paper, 18" x 24"

The Impact Artists Gallery in Buffalo, NY is having its third show of diverse art forms on paper from July 3 - August 3.  One of my three drawings in the show is The Great Debate, which is the shorter title.  The original title is A Reflection upon the Debate about Free Will and Determinism, Employing the Arguments of William James and David Hume, Contending the Arguments of Baron D'Holbach and Jean-Paul Sartre.  In no way, however, should one construe the drawing as an attack on Continental Philosophy while endorsing the approach of Anglo-American thought.

Play Art Exhibit

Double-Play; pencil on paper, 20" x 15"

The Bridge Art Gallery at Strong Behavioral Health is presenting an Art exhibit "Play" from July to August, 2013.  One of my two drawings on display, Double Play, concerns the play of seeing the same event in two perspectives.  This reveals that one perspective may not be enough.

Summer Show at Niagara Falls

Tales to Astonish; mixed-media on paper, 20" x 15"

The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center opens its Summer exhibit, Beyond the Barrel, on June 21 and it will run to August 25.  I entered two drawings in this show which theme this year is open.

The drawing shown here contrasts the absence and presence of a figure; in this case, the famed Etruscan sculpture "The Mars of Todi."  In between is the so-called cafe wall illusion of parallel lines which appear crooked.

Spirit and Mind Art Show

I am participating in a show from March to May entitled "Spirit and Mind" at the Outside the Box Art gallery in Fairport, NY.  Scientific, mathematical, and technological ideas are the inspiration for the works shown.  It should be an intriguing exhibit, given the variety of approaches for such a venue.

Beyond Barriers Art Show

Juncture; pencil on paper, 14" x 18"

The Department of Psychiatry of the Office of Mental Health Promotion is sponsoring a show entitled “Beyond Barriers” at The Bridge Art Gallery at Strong Behavioral Health. The jurors selected two of my drawings for the exhibit which is scheduled for March to June, 2013.   One of my drawings, Juncture, consists of three impossible loops joining each other in an impossible way, going beyond the barriers of three-dimensional space and creating a new kind of figure.
